Dinton won the toss and chose to bat on an overcast day. Langleybury couldn’t have started better with both openers back in the pavilion for ducks in the first 2 overs, with Andrew Cheeseman and Habib Alam each taking a wicket. 2 soon became 3 when Habib Alam trapped their number 4 in front for a third duck with the score on 14. Dinton’s captain A Gibons and H Woodward then put on a partnership of 57 before captain Richard Oxley deceived Woodward to play back to a ball pitched up and was plumb in front. Langleybury continued to take wickets and Dinton were 136 for 9 in the 34th over. P Arnold then took Dinton’s score to 182 for 9 with the help of 3 dropped catches, for a well crafted 52 not out.
Mo Manzoor and Will Oxley opened for Langleybury and took the score to 48 before mo was caught on the boundary. This brought Nahim Amin to the crease and they produced another 86 runs before Will Oxley was caught for 62 runs, with the score on 134. Dinton continued to keep the pressure on, but with wickets in hand, the result was never in doubt, although 3 more wickets were lost, before Nahim Amin and skipper, Richard Oxley got the winning runs with 4 balls to spare.
Langleybury are at home to Foxton from Cambridgeshire on 12 July with a 1 pm start, in round 6 (last 16 of the competition.)
